Hudson Maxim School Welcomes Patricia Lakin on April 27!

The Hudson Maxim School is very excited to welcome Patricia Lakin to our school on April 27, 2018.  She is a former elementary school teacher and an award-winning author.  Mrs. Lakin has written more than fifty published works, including “Max and Mo’s First Day at School” and “Muddy, Mud, Bud”.  Her books, both fiction and nonfiction, span multiple age groups-from toddlers to middle graders.  Many of her ideas are remembrances of events she experienced or emotions she felt during her childhood.  Mrs. Lakin lives in New York City with her husband, Lee Koenigsberg.  They have two grown sons, Aaron and Benjahmin.  When not reading, writing or researching, she can be found traveling to far-off places in the world.  To learn more, visit her website at  There will be an AM and PM presentation to accommodate all students.

Our Books & Beyond Program began on January 8!  I am a firm believer that students learn to read by reading.  Please don’t forget to spend some time reading with your children.  Our classrooms are stocked with great books!  If your child needs a book to read, please ask his/her classroom teacher or you can visit the local library and borrow some books to read.  Get your child hooked on an author or just hooked on books!!!

Emergency closings and delays are always posted to first!  Announcements are also sent to the local radio stations listed below:

BOOKS AND BEYOND: “Read to New Heights!”

Books and Beyond is approaching the halfway point! Our little hikers are moving up the mountains on our Books and Beyond Bulletin Board as they reach each 200 minute milestone. We even have some hikers that have reached the peak of the mountain with 1,200 minutes read! Remember – all reading counts, so log those minutes weekly and turn in your reading logs each Friday. Keep encouraging your child to “Read to New Heights!”

Our Gertrude Hawk Spring Fundraiser has ended.  The items should be delivered to Hudson Maxim the week of March 12.  Thank you to everyone who participated!

Currently we have the Display My Art fundraiser going on.  The students worked hard in school to make their own personalized piece of art.  You have the opportunity to order shirts, mugs, stickers, puzzles, greeting cards – almost anything – with your little Picasso’s masterpiece on it!  These items make perfect gifts for Mother’s and Father’s Day.

Our first Box Tops contest wrapped up on January 15!   Congratulations to Mrs. Monro’s Class who collected the most box tops for the Fall Contest!  The Spring Box Tops contest is in full swing.  Remember, one class from each school with the most submitted Box Tops will get a pizza party, care of HEPTO!  Keep sending in your Box Tops.  Last year we earned over $8,500 for our elementary schools, and every Box Top counts!

 Fill a Bucket with

Fill a Bucket with TRUSTWORTHINESS

Trustworthiness means being honest with others and keeping promises.  Others can count on you to do what is right if you are trustworthy and that will fill buckets for everyone.  By keeping promises and being a good friend, you can be a dependable person.  It is important to know which people you can trust.  A trustworthy person is someone who would never intentionally hurt you with unkind words or actions.  Fill buckets for your family and friends this month by being a trustworthy person.

Talk to Your Child about Trust:

  • Be aware of the behaviors you are modeling.
  • Talk about trusting others. Be realistic, but avoid creating fearfulness of others.
  • Point out situations in everyday life in which you trust others.
