The Little Chiefs Preschool Program is available to Hopatcong residents with toilet trained children who are 3.5 - 4 years of age. The program will run three days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Hopatcong High School. The program will be divided into two sessions. The morning session will run from 8:00am - 10:35am. The afternoon session will run from 11:00am - 1:40pm. It will begin on October 6, 2016 and end on June 7, 2017. The program is free; however the parent/guardian is responsible for providing transportation. For additional information please contact Dr. Joanne Mullane, the Preschool Coordinator, in the Curriculum Office at 973-770-8833 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applications are available online, as well as in the High School Main Office. A limited number of openings will be available for this program, therefore admission to the program will be on a first come, first served basis.
Because the preschool program is primarily a High School course, consistent attendance by the preschoolers is necessary for its success. In order for high school students to complete their assignments, please do not enroll your child if you do not intend to send them all 3 days each week. If your child comes sporadically or is absent for more than two weeks for any reason other than medical, we reserve the right to enroll another child in your child’s place.
The Little Chiefs Preschool is a free preparation program for Kindergarten that includes a New Jersey Department of Education and Board Approved early literacy curricula. Activities include Math, Pre-Writing Skills, Technology, Library, Physical Education, Music and Movement and lots of fun in our learning centers.
The program adheres to Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards set forth by the State of New Jersey. The Teaching Lab is part of the Future Teachers Academy program, which is an elective for high school students who are interested in a career in education or child development. This course provides High School students with an understanding of the various aspects of human growth and development, beginning with prenatal development and continuing through the kindergarten years. Under the direction of a certified preschool teacher, high school students will be both teachers and observers in order to gain confidence, knowledge, and skills in careers relating to children and teaching.
