The Hopatcong School District is fortunate to have a full-day general education preschool program that is of no cost to the community. We continue to work with the New Jersey State Department of Education to offer this free service to our families. It is important to note that the school district does not determine the number of seats available; the New Jersey Department of Education does. Therefore, space is limited and enrollment in the program (and enrollment at your preferred location) is lottery-based for the 2026-27 school year. This is being done in the interest of fairness and transparency for our community.
Preschool programs are offered at Durban Avenue School, First Impressions Lake Hopatcong, First Impressions Linden Avenue, First Impressions Stanhope, and Head Start Hopatcong (Head Start Hopatcong is available to financially eligible families, and this program may offer additional services to those who qualify). Children who are three or four years old on or before October 1, 2026 and reside in Hopatcong are eligible for the 2026-2027 school year program. The location/site that a child attends is based on parents’ preferred sites (indicated by the parent during registration) and a subsequent lottery to award the spots.
The window for online registration for the 2026-2027 school year will open at 12:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026 and will close at 11:59 PM on March 9, 2026. Please register via this link: https://www.hopatcongschools.org/p/home/registration/.
After online registration is entered paperwork can be dropped off between March 2, 2026 and March 9, 2026 by appointment to Mrs. Michelle Zammito at the Hopatcong Borough Schools District Office. Once a child is fully registered and all paperwork is verified, parents will receive a lottery number via email. The lottery will be livestreamed on Monday, March 16, 2026, and a link for the stream will be sent to families. Regardless of whether or not you are available to watch the lottery, you will be informed of your child’s placement in Pre-K by Friday, March 27, 2026.
When registering, please ensure you have the following information available: completed Physical History Form, Proof of Immunization, two Proofs of Residency, and the child's original Birth Certificate. Again, online registration must be completed, and all paperwork must be verified to be entered into the lottery.
If your child is already enrolled with the Hopatcong School District in the full-day general education preschool program for the 2025-2026 school year, there is no need to register again for the 2026-2027 school year. Your child will automatically be included in the program for the upcoming school year.
